The Greetland Churches Covenant

On Thursday 24th July 2014 at 7.30pm, a service was held to mark the signing of the Greetland Churches Covenant. For the past few years the two churches have moved significantly closer to each other in terms of worship, fellowship and mission. This service and the covenant itself are a symbol of this continuing and developing work. The service affirmed both lay and ordained in both churches, and was symbolic in many ways: -

...in starting the service at St Thomas then moving down the hill to Cross Hills

...in the carrying of the cross down Rochdale Road, a visible witness in the community of our faith and unity

...in the giving, receiving and lighting of candles

...in the signing of the covenant

...in the invitations and responses, welcomes and prayers

We were blessed to have both the Chair of the West Yorkshire Methodist District, Rev Dr Roger Walton, and the Archdeacon or Halifax, the Ven Dr Anne Dawtry present and preaching; and to welcome The Rev Dr. Clive Barrett, County Ecumenical Development Officer and Executive Secretary, West Yorkshire Ecumenical Council.

It was a fantastic occasion of symbolism and fellowship, affirming our joint ministry and mission in the furtherance of the kingdom of God on our doorsteps.
